VulcanForms is hiring Product Engineers for our Burlington, MA location.

Job Purpose
As Product Engineer at VulcanForms, Burlington, MA, you will perform the critical function of technical point-of-contact for our customers.  By leveraging the expertise of materials scientists, materials processing experts and LPBF manufacturing engineers you will direct the entire production process of the parts you own.

The role has significant impact on our relationship with customers and, as a technical leader, you will be assessed based on your abilities to transition customer print files into part demonstrators capable of meeting first article inspection requirements. You will establish part success criteria including print layouts, support strategies, powder evacuation methods, production risks and abatements.   To facilitate part production, you will interact with suppliers, internal and external laboratory experts, manufacturing engineers, business leaders, machinists, and technicians.  Strategic decisions that define production schedules will be made based on your recommendations.  The ideal candidate will be one that engages fully in the entire supply chain for the parts they own.

Applicants that demonstrate experience working closely with customers on technically complex products are highly sought.  Those with a background designing additively manufactured parts, preferably for medical, defense or aircraft engine applications are also of extreme interest and encouraged to apply.

Key Accountabilities
  • Project management, thinking ahead, Plan Bs, anticipating speed bumps
  • Customer engagement
  • Process and Sales team engagement
  • Technical customer presentations
  • Preparation and delivery of technical packages and requisitions
  • Process Variation Documentation and Review
  • Creation of balloon drawings and inspection criteria
  • Traceability and Serialization of metal AM printed parts
  • Cost Estimation
Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or work equivalent
  • 3 years in design and analysis of parts fabricated from nickel-based superalloys, titanium alloys or high strength steels
  • Prior experience in developing process routers for part production
  • Ability to identify, qualify and audit suppliers
  • MRB substantiation experience, i.e., identify root cause, develop corrective actions
  • Expertise in any one of the following CAD platforms: Creo, Solidworks, or Inventor
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Extremely motivated and eager to learn
  • Authorized to work within the U.S. without restrictions or sponsorship now or in the future (U.S. Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident of the U.S. (U.S. green card holder))
Preferred
  • Advanced engineering degree
  • 5 years of design experience working in the medical, aircraft engine or power generation business
  • Expert knowledge of design for metal additive components
  • Proficiency in Materialise Magics or equivalent software
  • Experience working with machining and materials processing suppliers
  • Background in mechanical properties of structural alloys, heat treatment
  • Structured Light Scanning/Dimensional Inspection/GOM
  • Metal AM printed Part Assessments
  • Team player with excellent written communication skills
  • Strong sense of ownership
  • Excited about taking on new challenges in the metal additive manufacturing industry and working in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Self-motivated, hands-on, practical mindset, and capable of setting and reaching ambitious goals
