VulcanForms is hiring a Process Engineer – 2nd Shift for our Burlington, MA, R&D Tech Center.

Job Purpose
As a Process Engineer – Operations (2nd Shift) at VulcanForms Inc., Burlington, MA, you will be responsible for operating our high-speed laser powder-bed fusion (LPBF) systems for R&D projects, application prototypes, and small-scale productions. You will handle all aspects and workflow of our LPBF printing, producing R&D coupons, and industrial prototype parts from raw powder. Specifically, you will own the processes from build layout preparation, process parameter design and assigning, build file generations, LPBF machine setup and operation, and process monitoring to deliver high-quality parts out of the printers. Also, you will be responsible for calibrating and qualifying our machines and processes.

You will be working closely with process design engineers and product engineers to improve VulcanForms' technology readiness levels for mass production. You will also work with a cross-disciplinary internal team to strengthen our Additive Manufacturing system's design and performance by providing first-hand feedback on machine design and integration and software and control development and implementation.

Please be aware that the Process Engineer – Operations position is a shift-based position: the 1st shift runs from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm; the 2nd shift runs 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm; the 3rd shift runs 11:00 pm to 7:30 am.

Key Accountabilities
  • Own entire LPBF process workflow, including build layout and print files preparation, machine setup and operation, print process and quality monitoring, and post-build summary and reports.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safe and effective usage of all equipment and systems.
  • Perform routine and preventive system calibration and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot any machine-related issues encountered during operations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for VF LPBF machines and collaborate with other engineering groups and teams to enable R&D, prototype, and small-scale production prints.
  • Strict compliance with the safety protocol and proper use of personal protective equipment
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline; includes mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, materials, or electrical engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Additive Manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience and demonstrated skills in root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and solution assessment for complex problems
  • Self-starter that has demonstrated the ability to define and own a process workflow
  • Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Authorized to work within the U.S. without restrictions or sponsorship now or in the future (U.S. Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident of the U.S. (U.S. green card holder))
Preferred
  • Hands-on experience with one or more AM-related technologies: welding, directed energy deposition (DED), powder bed fusion (PBF) is a plus
  • Experience with AM-related software (Magics, nTopology, etc.) and CAD software (Creo, Autodesk Inventor, etc.) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of laser and optical systems
  • Working knowledge of material science
  • Programming skills (Matlab, python, java, etc.) or working knowledge of programming
  • Excited about new challenges in metal additive manufacturing and working in a fast-paced startup environment
