Job Purpose
VulcanForms is currently seeking a Controls Engineer (level dependent on experience and qualifications) to join our Systems Engineering team. Your initial responsibilities will include installing, commissioning, and supporting our innovative, high-volume metal AM system in our new production facility in Devens, MA. The role will evolve to include recent development efforts related to continuous process improvement and the design of next-generation systems. There are many challenges and unlimited opportunities ahead of us, and you will be able to play a crucial role in our effort to build the world's most productive additive manufacturing system.

  • BS or MS in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, or similar relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience with the design, development, commissioning, and troubleshooting of hardware and software associated with control systems for various industrial manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Experience should span all facets of a modern industrial control system, including but not limited to single and multi-axis coordinated motion control, safety systems, HMI, data collection, process monitoring, industrial networks and communications using various protocols, etc.
  • Experience in the sizing and selection of control and power distribution components typically used in manufacturing equipment. Familiar with all relevant electrical design and safety standards (e.g., NFPA 79 or IEC 60204-1).
  • Familiar with the use of version control software (e.g., GitHub) in a multi-developer project environment.
  • Ability to follow and generate electrical schematics
  • Experience with modular automation platforms such as B&R (preferred) or Beckhoff and the ability to program those systems in at least two IEC 61131-3 languages (ST and SFC preferred).
  • Experience with software development in C/C++, C#, Python, or other high-level languages is considered a bonus.
  • Experience with a wide variety of sensors and actuators and the ability to select/recommend the best for a particular application.
  • Experience with the design and tuning closed-loop systems for control of position, pressure, flow, temperature, etc.
  • Self-motivated, dynamic, capable of setting and reaching ambitious goals, outgoing, communicative, detail-oriented, and eager to dive in and take a hands-on approach to design and problem-solving.
