Senior Technical Buyer

As a Senior Technical Buyer, you will have a unique opportunity to lead the entire procurement efforts for a first of its kind industrial-scale metal additive manufacturing machine. You will be an important member of the team that build and operates the world’s most productive additive manufacturing systems.

You will work closely with design engineering and manufacturing operations’ teams to understand technology and manufacturing requirements. You are required to get a deep understanding of the additive manufacturing machines that we are building along with the other ancillary equipment/process – what parts go into it, what are the specs for those parts and why, who are the vendors, what is the price and lead time for individual components, how can we reduce lead time and get better pricing, which components are single source, who would be alternative vendors, etc. to assist the company plan better for production. Manage incoming material and all shipping and receiving activities. You will also keep the shop floor inventory sorted, organized and support the engineering team throughout the build-up of equipment

You will provide recommendation on what tools/software need to be used for part management, inventory planning, accounts payable, etc. and lead implementation of such tools/software. You will maintain a database of all vendors and signed contracts, and review vendor contracts in absolute detail to ensure that we are getting the best terms. As the first hire in the supply chain team you are expected to take initiatives and get things done. You should be comfortable letting the management know about where we lack, and what needs to be done how – “We need to implement X, Y and Z to have an efficient supply chain function and this is what I need from the management to get this done.”

  • Self-motivated, capable of setting and reaching ambitious goals
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in supply chain/strategic sourcing and business/industry work experience focused on direct materials
  • Requires familiarity with material procurement in a lean manufacturing environment, leveraging volume spend, inventory turns, and continuous improvement tools
  • Experience working with an ERP system and expertise using MS Office (i.e. Word, Excel) and Outlook.
  • Experience driving direct material sourcing savings
  • Ability to resolve problems to attain goals and manage project timelines to meet deadlines
  • Must have strong background in building strategic relationships with suppliers and internal customers and stakeholders
  • Team player with excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Eager to learn new skills
  • This job may require occasional travel to customers and vendors
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in Avionics
  • Knowledge of FAR/DFAR and commercial procurement regulations
  • CPM or CPCM certification or APICS certification
  • Demonstrated application of Six Sigma/Lean methodologies to yield tangible business results
