Senior Simulation Analyst

The Senior Simulation Analyst is the subject matter expert in AM build simulation and distortion prediction. This role has a significant impact on first time yield of components and ensuring parts meet customer requirements. This role is based out of VulcanForms’ Burlington, MA location.

As a Senior Simulation Analyst, you will be expected to,

  • Perform simulation of metal additive manufacturing process to evaluate impact on residual stresses, deformation, microstructure and properties.
  • Utilize simulation to study effects from post-processing heat treat and cutting operations.
  • Work with product engineers to optimize part design, support structure, and build strategy to minimize distortion and potential build failures.
  • Use inspection and analytic results to create compensated models (STL).
  • Support and collaborate with internal teams to provide subject-matter expertise in the development of novel modeling systems for VulcanForms AM process and machines.
  • Utilize simulation tools to investigate build failures and support root cause investigations.
  • Act as subject-matter expert for build distortion prediction.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience working with commercial finite element modeling software (ie. Ansys, Simufact, Abaqus), working with both Eigen Strain (inherent strain) and coupled thermo-mechanical simulation
  • Expert in CAD and solid model file management
  • BS in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering
  • US Person
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years’ working with AM Applications
  • Expert knowledge of FEA simulation and optimization of additively manufactured metal components and subsequent process influences
  • Expert knowledge of design for additive manufacturing, specifically metal laser powder-bed fusion
  • Experience with 3D scanning and measurement tools
  • Advanced engineering degree
  • Thrives in a cross-functional team environment
  • Background in modeling structural metal alloys such as titanium and Inconel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented and experience with clear, organized documentation and task management
