Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer
Description

VulcanForms is currently seeking a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join our Laser Optics Engineering team at our Burlington, MA facility.  In this role, your main objective will be to design and build high power beam delivery systems for the world’s most productive and advanced metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and leading the project execution, documentation and reporting of project progress and results, and communicate milestones and deliverables to the leadership and stakeholders.
  • Overseeing installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
  • Maintaining documentation including engineering change notices, bills of material, detailed models and associated component drawings, cost worksheets, and supplier correspondence files.
  • You will participate in and provide first-hand feedback on optical system design and integration.
  • Working with a cross-disciplinary internal team to further improve our AM system design and performance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of Mechanical Design Engineering experience in Laser, Optical or Semiconductor Industry
  • Deep understanding and expertise in optical system design and manufacturing
  • Experience with a 3D design tools, such as SolidWorks, CREO, AutoCAD Inventor, FEM and CFD software
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Strong working knowledge of and experience with opto-mechanical systems
  • Must be a current US Citizen or US Resident/Green Card Holder

  • Master of Science or PhD in Engineering
  • Free-space Gaussian beam coupling experience
  • Strong project management experience
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis
  • Experience leading design teams and projects
  • Experience with components and precision mechanism design
  • Motion control & automation systems experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Additive Manufacturing (AM) industry experience
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup company environment
